What Are Long Radiators?

Long radiators are radiators with an extended overall length, designed to cover more wall area than a standard radiator so heat spreads more evenly across a room. They come in traditional column styles with round bars, and modern flat panel designs with a smooth face.

What Size Long Radiator Do I Need?

Sizing comes down to the heat your room actually needs. Measure your room's length, width and ceiling height, run the figures through a BTU calculator, then match that output to a radiator. Only once you know the output should you pick the width that fits your wall.

Should I Choose Double Or Triple Column?

Double and triple column radiators differ in heat output. Triple column has an extra row of sections holding hot water, so it puts out more heat at the same height and width. Triple suits a larger or draughtier room, double is plenty for a standard, well-insulated one.

Column Or Flat Panel, Which Should I Pick?

Column radiators have the classic ribbed look and suit period properties and traditional bathrooms. Flat panel radiators have one smooth front face, which looks cleaner against modern tiling and gives less surface for dust to gather on. Both heat effectively, so it's mainly a styling decision.

What Colour Or Finish Should I Choose?

White is the safest match for most rooms and the easiest to keep looking clean. Matt black and anthracite suit modern schemes with dark taps and fittings, while antique gold, antique copper and raw metal give a characterful, industrial or period feel. Inky blue works as a deliberate feature colour.

Do I Need A Plumber To Fit A Long Radiator?

Yes, a long radiator connects into your central heating pipework, so a plumber is needed to fit it, balance it and bleed the system afterwards. They'll also check your existing pipe centres line up with the radiator's valve inlets before installation.

Are Long Radiators More Efficient Than Standard Ones?

Efficiency depends on heat output matched to the room, not length alone. What a longer radiator does well is distribute heat more evenly across a wider area, which gives you consistent warmth from one end of the room to the other.
