What Is A Wall Hung Basin?

A wall hung basin is a basin fixed directly to the wall, with no pedestal or floor-standing unit holding it up. The pipework either runs behind the wall or sits exposed underneath, and the clear floor space is the main reason people choose them.

What Size Wall Hung Basin Do I Need?

Sizes here start at 330mm for a cloakroom and go up to 1200mm for a double basin vanity. Measure your available wall width first, then allow elbow room either side. A 400mm to 500mm basin suits a cloakroom, 600mm to 800mm works for most family bathrooms.

Is A Wall Hung Basin Good For A Small Bathroom?

Wall hung basins are one of the best options for a small bathroom, since the clear floor underneath makes the room read as bigger than it is. Compact 330mm and 400mm cloakroom sizes fit into spaces where a pedestal basin simply wouldn't work.

Can A Wall Hung Basin Be Fitted To Any Wall?

The wall needs to be strong enough to carry the basin's weight plus the water in it. A solid masonry wall is straightforward; a stud wall usually needs noggins or a support frame fitted between the studs before the basin goes up.

Do I Need A Plumber To Fit A Wall Hung Basin?

Yes, since the tap, waste, and water supply all need connecting properly, and the fixing has to be secure enough to take the weight. A plumber will also check whether your existing waste pipe position lines up with the new basin.

Should I Choose A Basin Only Or A Wall Hung Vanity?

A standalone wall hung basin gives the most open floor space and suits small cloakrooms. A wall hung vanity adds drawer storage underneath while still keeping the floor clear, which is the better choice if you need somewhere to put toiletries and cleaning bits.

Will The Pipework Be On Show?

On a standalone wall hung basin, yes, unless you hide it behind a boxed-in wall. That's why a smart bottle trap in a matching finish is worth pairing with it. A wall hung vanity unit conceals the pipework inside the cabinet instead.

How to Choose Wall Hung Basins for Your Bathroom?

To choose wall hung basins for your bathroom, measure your wall width and check your waste pipe position first, then decide between a standalone basin or a vanity with storage. Check your wall type can take the weight, pick a basin shape and finish that suits your existing fittings, and factor in a visible bottle trap if the pipework will be on show.
