Double Panel Radiators

What Is A Double Panel Radiator?

A double panel radiator has two flat heating panels mounted together, rather than the single panel on a basic radiator. Both panels carry hot water, which roughly doubles the heated surface area and gives a much higher heat output from the same height and width.

Is A Double Panel Radiator Better Than A Single Panel?

A double panel radiator puts out significantly more heat than a single panel of the same size, which makes it the better choice for larger rooms, bathrooms with a lot of glazing, or any room you want warming through quickly. A single panel suits a cloakroom or small en-suite where demand is lower.

What Size Double Panel Radiator Do I Need?

Work out your room's BTU requirement first by measuring its length, width and ceiling height, then running those figures through a BTU calculator. Match that number to a radiator's stated output, and only then check the physical size fits your wall.

Should I Choose Vertical Or Horizontal?

Vertical double panel radiators run up the wall, so they suit narrow gaps beside a basin, toilet or in an alcove. Horizontal models run along the wall and work well under a window or on a long clear stretch. Both are available in double panel here, so the choice comes down to your wall shape.

Are Double Panel Radiators More Expensive To Run?

Running cost depends on how long the heating is on and what temperature you set, not on the panel count. A correctly sized double panel radiator often costs less to run overall, because it heats the room to temperature faster and the thermostat then shuts the boiler down sooner.

What Is A Mirror Radiator?

A mirror radiator has a mirrored front face, so it works as both a heater and a full-length mirror. In a bathroom or hallway where wall space is limited, it saves you fitting two separate things, and the double panel construction behind it still delivers proper heat output.

Do I Need A Plumber To Fit A Double Panel Radiator?

Yes. A double panel radiator connects into your central heating pipework and needs bleeding and balancing once fitted. A plumber will also check your existing pipe centres line up with the radiator's valve inlets before installation.
