FAQs

What is a P shape bath panel?

A P-shape bath panel is a specially designed protective cover that fits along the exposed side of a P-shaped shower bath. Because P-shape baths combine a standard narrow bathing section with a wider, curved circular section at one end to create a comfortable showering area, a standard straight panel will not fit them. The P-shape panel curves outward to mirror the exact silhouette of the bathtub.

Do I need a specific panel for a P shape bath?

Yes, you absolutely need a specific panel made specifically for a P-shape bath. A standard straight bath panel will not work because it cannot bend to follow the distinct curved shape of the tub.

Are P shape bath panels universal?

No, P-shape bath panels are generally not universal. Every manufacturer uses slightly different curves, lengths (1500mm to 1700mm), and heights. Because of this, you usually need to buy a panel from the exact same manufacturer and model line as your bath to ensure a perfect fit.

If you are replacing a panel or buying a new one, you will need to check several details:

Handedness: P-shape baths are either Left-Handed or Right-Handed (determined by which side the wider, curved shower area is on when looking at it from the front). Your panel must match this orientation.
Length: P-shape baths typically come in standard lengths like 1500mm, 1600mm, or 1700mm. The front panel must perfectly match the length of your specific tub.
Height: The overall height of standard bath panels can vary (e.g., 510mm vs 540mm), so measure from the floor to the rim of your bath.

What materials are P shape bath panels made from?

P shape bath panels are primarily manufactured from acrylic, high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), or Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF).

The three main materials used offer different benefits for your bathroom:

Acrylic: The most common option. Standard acrylic is lightweight, glossy, and cost-effective. Reinforced acrylic (often called Beaufortè) includes an extra resin, fibreglass, or composite hardening layer, making it highly rigid and impact-resistant.
High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS): A rigid plastic material often used for standard or budget-friendly front and end panels. It provides a smooth, modern gloss finish and is highly water-resistant.
MDF: Usually wrapped in a waterproof PVC vinyl or acrylic layer. MDF is highly rigid and can often be bent or cut more easily to fit the exact curves of a P-shape bath.

Can I replace a P shaped bath panel without replacing the bath?

Yes, you can replace a P-shape bath panel without replacing the entire bath.

Because P-shape baths have unique curves, finding a panel that matches the exact contour of your existing tub is the most critical step.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Exact Curve Match: Every manufacturer uses a slightly different radius for their P-shape curve. A panel from one brand rarely fits a bath from another brand. Always try to find the original brand and model of your bath first.
Height Differences: Bath panels come in various heights (usually between 510mm and 540mm). If the new panel is too tall, it can often be carefully trimmed at the bottom. If it is too short, it will leave an unsightly gap.
Flexible MDF Alternatives: If you cannot find the original manufacturer's acrylic panel, you can use a flexible, moisture-resistant MDF slatted panel kit. These are designed to bend and conform to any specific P-shape curve during installation.

How do I know if I need a left-hand or right-hand P shape bath panel?

The required panel depends on the orientation of your P shape bath. The curved showering end determines whether the bath and panel are left-handed or right-handed.

Are P shape bath panels waterproof?

Yes, P-shape bath panels are completely waterproof on their exterior surfaces, but their overall resistance to water damage depends heavily on the core material used. Because these panels are installed directly below a shower area, they are designed to handle heavy splashes and running water.

How do I clean a P shape bath panel?

Clean the panel using warm water, a soft cloth, and a non-abrasive bathroom cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive pads that may damage the finish.
