3 Column Radiators

3 column radiators are traditional radiators with three rows of columns carrying hot water, rather than the two on a double column model. That third column adds a lot more heated surface area, so you get noticeably more output from the same height and width.

Perfect for bathrooms, living rooms, hallways, bedrooms and dining rooms. The extra output makes them the stronger choice for larger rooms, older houses and anywhere with high ceilings or a lot of glazing, where a standard radiator would struggle to warm the space through.

Bathroom Mountain offers 3 column radiators in both vertical and horizontal orientations, in white, matt black, anthracite, antique gold, antique copper and raw metal. Vertical models run to 1800mm high with widths from 290mm to 650mm, while horizontal models come in 300mm to 750mm heights with widths from 425mm up to 1595mm. A plumber connects yours to your existing pipework, and upkeep is an occasional bleed plus a wipe between the columns.

As a leading UK bathroom retailer, Bathroom Mountain offers affordable and quality 3 column radiators backed by our Price Match Promise, fast next-day UK delivery options and an Excellent Trustpilot rating, so you can buy with confidence.

What Is A 3 Column Radiator?

A 3 column radiator is a traditional radiator with three rows of columns running front to back, each carrying hot water. The extra column increases the heated surface area, which is what gives it a higher output than a double column radiator of the same size.

Is A 3 Column Radiator Better Than A 2 Column?

For heat output, yes. The third column adds more surface area, so a 3 column radiator puts out noticeably more heat at the same height and width. A 2 column is plenty for a standard, well-insulated room, while 3 column suits larger or draughtier spaces.

What Size 3 Column Radiator Do I Need?

Measure your room's length, width and ceiling height, then run those figures through a BTU calculator to work out the output you need. Match that number to a radiator's stated heat output, then check the dimensions fit your wall with clearance for the valves.

Should I Choose Vertical Or Horizontal?

Vertical 3 column radiators run up the wall and suit narrow gaps beside a door, basin or in an alcove. Horizontal models run along the wall and work well under a window or on a longer clear stretch where floor-level space isn't needed.

Are 3 Column Radiators Deeper Than Standard Ones?

Yes, the third column adds depth, so the radiator projects a little further from the wall. Measure your clearance before ordering, particularly in a narrow hallway or anywhere a door opens close to the radiator.

Which Colour Or Finish Should I Choose?

White is the safest match for most rooms and easiest to keep clean. Matt black and anthracite suit modern schemes with dark fittings, while antique gold, antique copper and raw metal give a period or industrial feel that works beautifully in an older property.

Do 3 Column Radiators Take Longer To Heat Up?

They hold more water than a 2 column, so they take slightly longer to reach temperature from cold. The trade-off is that they also hold their heat for longer once the boiler cycles off, which evens out through a normal heating period.

How to Choose 3 Column Radiators for Your Home?

To choose 3 column radiators for your home, calculate your room's BTU requirement first, then check the radiator's stated output matches it. Decide between vertical and horizontal based on your available wall, measure the projection as well as the width, and pick a finish that suits your fittings.
