What Are the Benefits of Taking Warm Showers?

In our previous post we covered off what the benefits of cold showers are, shedding some light on why they may be more beneficial than you think. Now let us take you through what some of the benefits of taking warm showers are, and you can decide whether you’d like to stick to warmth, or change things up and go cold. Be sure to set your water to a comfortable temperature, and not so hot that it will scald your skin, as this can be incredibly damaging. So let’s delve into some of the benefits…

– They can be a natural remedy for cold and cough symptoms

The warm water from your toasty shower will produce steam when it hits the cold air. This steam works wonders for opening up your airways and nasal passage. If you have a stubborn cold that just won’t get off your back with a stuffy nose and sore throat, steam from your shower will clear this up nicely and relieve some of your symptoms. Take this one step further, adding peppermint or lavender products, as these scents are great for clearing nastiness in your airway.

– They can help clear up blemishes

Taking a warm shower, as we mentioned, will produce steam. The warmth and steam combined will open up the pores in your skin, allowing for any dirt and oil to be washed away and removed from your skin. Dirt and oil on the skin can be a major contributing factor to blemishes. Although, this may not be the only reason you may be getting them, so don’t rely on this solely to clear them up. Using products that claim to deep cleanse can help clear things up too.

– They’re great for muscle relaxation

It’s no secret that warmth can work wonders on aches and pains we pick up from day to day life. Whether you add a heat pack or hot water bottle to the area, if heat helps, stick with it. Warm showers are great for further introducing heat to your achy muscles, relieving some of that tension and pain. Warm baths are even better for this, as your body is fully submerged in the warmth, truly relaxing the body.

– Warm showers can help you sleep better

Similar to our last point, warm water can aid in the relaxation of muscles and bodies. When your muscles are truly relaxed you’ll find it so much easier to drift off to sleep. Not only will it be easier to get to sleep in the first place, but it will also improve the quality of sleep, as your body won’t be as tense and stressed form the day.

– They improve blood circulation

When your body is submerged in warm water blood will start pumping faster than before, increasing circulation but also mimicking a mini workout. When our blood circulation picks up so does our heart rate, just like it does when we start exercising. This can also help with heart health, as it’s always best to keep it active to decrease the risk of more serious heart problems.
