If you’ve been shopping around for a new shower enclosure to go in your bathroom or en-suite and have found yourself getting a bit confused by the measurements, don’t worry, we’re here to explain!
It might seem somewhat tricky to get your head around, but here’s our easy guide on understanding shower enclosures and their measurements.
Let us explain:
You’re looking at a shower enclosure and the product title says it’s 1000mm, great, this will line up with your 1000mm shower tray right? But the description and technical diagram says its 960-990mm, why is this?
This is because the shower enclosure isn’t actually 1000mm. We know, confusing right? The shower enclosure is slightly smaller than this allow for the thickness of your tiles in the shower to be taken into consideration.
When fitting your shower, you would typically fit the shower tray into place first and then tile around the shower tray. So, when your shower tray is 1000mm, your tiles will be taking some of that length off. Let’s say your tiles are 20mm thick, the available length on your shower tray is now 980mm.
So, your shower enclosure needs to be at least 980mm to fit onto your shower tray.
To add to the confusion, our shower enclosures also have an adjustment range. This means if you have tiles that are thicker or thinner, the enclosure has a certain allowance that will accommodate this.
