How to Effectively Clean a Shower Head

If you’ve noticed that your shower head isn’t as powerful as it once was, we’re here to help! Over time, minerals in our water can build up and leave our shower heads clogged and performing poorly, but don’t rush to buy a new head! Instead, have a look at our tips and tricks for removing the build-up and getting it working as it used to.

– Focus Clean the Nozzles

Our first suggestion would be to focus clean the nozzles on your shower head. Many shower heads have rubber nozzles from where the water comes out. This makes it incredibly easy to clean the head, by simply moving the nozzle about a bit and dislodging the build up, releasing it and leaving you with clean nozzles.

– Soak the Head in Vinegar

There are a couple of ways of achieving this.

Firstly, you can remove the head and soak it in a container of white vinegar.

>Make sure you let the head soak for a few hours

>After a few hours, rinse the head under some clean water and reattach it to the pipe.

>Let the water run through the head for a few minutes before you hop in the shower, to ensure all the vinegar is washed off.

If you don’t feel comfortable removing the head from the pipe, there is an alternative way of achieving this.

>Fill a plastic bag with White vinegar and grab an elastic band.

>Submerge the shower head, still attached, in the vinegar with the bag wrapping around the head.

>Wrap the elastic band around the thinner part of the shower head to secure the bag to the head, and leave it to sit for a few hours.

>Take the bag off and let water run through the shower head for a few minutes before getting in, to wash away all of the vinegar.

– How Often Should I Clean my Shower Head?

To ensure you’re getting the mist out of your shower head, we would recommend cleaning it at least once a month. If it’s left too long build-up can cause serious blockages and low water pressure, meaning you may eventually have to buy a new one. If you live in an area with hard water it is advisable that you clean your shower head more frequently, as it can cause more build-up than in areas with soft water.

There you have our tips and tricks for cleaning your shower head, and how to maintain it so it lasts years and years. Happy cleaning!
