Reasons Why Taking a Bath is Good for You

The pleasurable experience of slipping into the bath is one we all know and love. It’s an experience that induces true relaxation, sparking happy and positive vibes all round. Whether you’re a bath lover or hater, there’s a long list of benefits in regards to us and our health when it comes to taking a bath, and we’re here to tell you some of them!

1 – Hot baths are great for relieving muscle pain

If you’re achy and sore here and there, it is a great idea to take a nice soak in a warm bath, to relive some of the pain. The hot water will act as an anti-inflammatory, so your whole body and muscles can relax, soothing your aches. With the addition of Epsom salts, baths can also benefit those with arthritis and other muscle diseases. If you’re in doubt, it’s always worth a try, so get the tub running and have a dip.

2 – They can relieve cold and flu symptoms

Not only can baths help relieve your sore and achy muscles, they can also be great for relieving cold and flu symptoms like that blocked nose you’ve had for weeks. The steam that comes off a toasty bath will work wonders. Congestion related to cold and flu symptoms is caused by inflammation in your nasal passage. The steam from the bath will get your blood vessels moving, loosening any inflammation you may have.

3 – Baths can help elevate your mood

The true calm and peace you feel when you submerge yourself into a nice warm bath can have amazing effects on your mood that will have staying power long after you get out. There are even studies that suggest taking a bath can lessen the feelings of depression. They allow the mind and body to be in a true state of relaxation and calm. Sounds lovely, right?

4 – They can improve our hearts health

There’s research that suggests taking regular warm baths can be incredibly beneficial and help reduce your blood pressure. By reducing your blood pressure, baths are in turn reducing your risk of more serious things like heart attacks or strokes. Every time you take a bath your body will be getting a mini workout!

5 – They can soothe irritated skin

Providing the bath is warm and not scalding as this can worsen the condition of your skin, baths can help in soothing dry and irritated skin. Combining warm water with essential oils like lavender, coconut or olive can improve your skins condition, healing and hydrating while you take your soak. In addition to this, aromatherapy is incredibly beneficial to your mood and great for reducing stress.

6 – Baths can burn calories

As you soak in your toasty bath, no doubt you’ll tend to get a bit hot and sweaty. The sweat you release while you take your bath means you’ll actually be burning calories as you’re relaxing! What could be better?!

7 – They can help you feel more awake

When we get up in the morning the best thing to do to wake us up is to get moving and get active. It gets the blood pumping around our body helping us feel awake and ready for the day ahead. Baths can have the same effect. A warm bath will get the blood pumping around your body in the same way physical activity will. Baths won’t make you feel sleepy, more ensure you have a better quality sleep.

8 – They also help us sleep better

Baths are sure to improve the quality of sleep you get. When we sleep our body temperature will naturally drop. When you get out of a warm bath, it’ll do the same. By having a bath before you go to bed, you’re kickstarting the process your body temperature goes through when you fall asleep, which will in turn improve the quality of your sleep. It also helps that the relaxing nature of baths help us to feel calm and rested.
