Rustic Bathroom Ideas for a Warm & Cosy Bathroom

Add a rustic look to the bathroom by including warm shades, textures and designs that have an element of nature and natural materials. Timber panels, natural wood accessories, traditional tiles and fittings with a hint of olde-worlde style will add a sense of warmth and homeliness to a bathroom that has old- fashioned rustic looks teamed with all mod cons! Read on for our rustic bathroom ideas…

1 – Brass Taps and Fittings for a Rustic Cottage Look

There’s something about traditionally-coloured brassware that has a rustic, cottage-style feeling… even though we’re all so used to seeing brass fittings in super-stylish modern settings! Team brass with black tiles, such as Metro Black Wall Tiles from Tile Mountain and some old-fashioned toiletries and a bit of greenery for a country-rustic look. This is our Medway Brushed Brass Basin Mixer Tap which has a ceramic disk cartridge for durability.

2 – Choose a Wood-Style Floor

Floor Tiles with the appearance of natural worn and ‘distressed’ timber are a perfect choice to add a touch of rustic simplicity to a bathroom. These are Reclaimed Dark Oak Nailed Wood Effect porcelain planks, from Tile Mountain, designed to look exactly like aged wooden boards – with the advantage that they will easily cope with all splashes and suds, as well as being fantastically easy to keep clean. Team with a Finsbury tub and timber accessories.

3 – Period-Style Furniture and Traditional Patterned Floor Tiles

Go full-on rustic by combining period-style cabinetry, such as our Lucia Dove Grey Corner Basin Vanity unit, which is also available in Chalk White and a darker Graphite Grey. Roughly plastered walls and horizontal cladding or tiles create a rustic-style look. Try Faenza Rustic Grey or Riga Patchwork floor tiles from Tile Mountain for a similar look that is reminiscent of salvaged patterned tiles for that rustic vibe.

4 – Choose Rustic-Look Bathroom Stone Tiles

Floors and walls are visually the biggest area in the bathroom so the flooring has to be spot on, style-wise. Choose a design that has natural elements, such as wood or stone, to keep the rustic theme. These are pretty special tiles, they’re Illusion Sand Polished Wall & Floor porcelain tiles from Tile Mountain, designed to replicate marble. The large format – 1200mm x 600mm means that they’re perfect for a large room, but minimise the visible grout lines in a smaller room.

5 – Add a Traditional-Style Towel Warmer for Cosiness

Any bathroom needs to feel warm and cosy for that relaxing soak in the bath, but we think it’s a particularly important way of emphasising a country-style rustic look. This is the Gibraltar Medium White Traditional Heated Towel Radiator with an overhanging rail that will keep towels warm and aired. Once again, patterned floor tiles keep the relaxed and rustic look on point, try Luken Bliss with pre-scored grout lines, from Tile Mountain, for a similar stylish rustic ambiance.

6 – Add Rustic-Style Accessories

If you’re already the proud owner of a stylish modern bathroom, it’s still possible to add one or two ‘rustic’ accessories. We’re thinking natural wood stools or little tables, or a wooden towel ladder. The rest of the room can look sleek and comfortable… try natural stone-look tiles for a rustic influence, such as Balmoral from Tile Mountain. And for a comfy bath or shower, try our L-Shaped 1700 Shower Bath with Front Panel and Fixed Screen.

7 – Go for Distressed-Style Floor Tiles

We think that a rustic-style bathroom requires tiles that look as if they’ve been there for ages – but of course, they still need to perform beautifully and protect the floor from water ingress. These are Clay Seal distressed-look encaustic-style ceramic tiles from Tile Mountain. They are designed to look like four smaller tiles with score lines, with each individual tile measuring 450mm x 450mm square – so they’re quicker to install than lots of little tiles.

8 – Go for Elegant Rustic

This stylish bathroom has a hint of rustic-style. The palm is the perfect addition – exotic rustic perhaps?! A sunny, light-filled bathroom is the perfect place for a lush green plant, they love a warm atmosphere with a bit of steam now and then. Shown here; our Lucia Inky Blue Basin Vanity with Medway Brushed Brass fittings and our Mayfair Freestanding Roll Tip Slipper Bath. Tiles are Linear White Gloss and Briana Marine Floor tiles, both Tile Mountain.
