Space-saving hacks for your bathroom

A small bathroom can look every bit as stylish as a large space, with some clever interior design. Ultimately, the size of your bathroom is irrelevant: it’s much more important for the room to be cosy, functional and inviting. Here are our tips for making the most of a smaller space…

Play with the layout

Plan the space out on squared paper and decide what fixtures you definitely need – toilet, sink, shower etc. Work out their sizes and try them each in different positions on your plan. Make sure you have space for the doorway and give yourself a decent amount of room for changing and towelling dry.

Space-saving suites

There are some very clever units available today that combines a basin, toilet and storage. Called Combined Vanity Units, they help you make use of what would normally be dead space and open up the floor plan of the room.

There’s lots of variety so you can find the perfect shape and style to suit your bathroom, whether you’re going for a cool modern look or a more traditional Victorian style.

Use your corners

A great way to save space is to slot your shower into a corner. Using a quadrant shower enclosure should give you a roomy shower area without taking up much of your floor area. The position of your shower door is important too, as you’ll need room to step out comfortably.

If you can fit a bath into the room, look at L and P shaped baths to combine a bath with a roomy shower enclosure. Or, take a look at these bathtubs for small bathrooms.

Hints for your heating

In a small bathroom, it can be tricky to find space for a decent radiator. But this is one room you don’t want to be chilly! The good news is that there are so many radiator options you’re certain to find one that will fit your space – whether it’s a narrow vertical style or a smaller wall-mounted towel rail. Or, you could avoid the need for a radiator altogether by choosing underfloor heating.

Smart Storage

Clutter is a big no-no in a small space. Make sure you have a place for everything, whether it’s by adding a mirrored cabinet, a wall hung vanity unit, sets of shelving or handy hooks. Place towels on a high rack out of the way, or choose storage boxes to hide away cleaning products or cosmetics.

Don’t scrimp on style

Your bathroom is a space where you’ll spend time every day, so make sure it’s a room that brings you joy! It’s just as important to create some style and appeal in a small space as in a larger one.

Spend some time browsing social media or magazines to get a feel for what you like in a bathroom – whether it’s an accent colour in your towels and ornaments, statement tiles or adding some greenery.

Lovely lighting

Lighting is important in a bathroom of any size, so make sure it’s a bright space. Spotlights are always popular, but you can add interest and appeal with an LED mirror – some even come with a Bluetooth speaker to bring your favourite music into the room with you.

We hope that’s helped inspire you to make sure your small bathroom is big on appeal!
